Private Doctor vs Prescribing Pharmacist – What’s the Difference?

Myth: only a doctor can write a prescription, help with acute illness or offer consultations.

Fact: You don’t always need to see a private doctor or GP to get safe, evidence-based care.

Our consultations are carried out by independent prescribing pharmacists who are:

  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)

  • Trained to assess, diagnose and treat a wide range of common conditions

  • Able to issue private prescriptions in their own name, just like a doctor or nurse prescriber

For many day-to-day problems, a prescribing pharmacist can give you the same outcome as a private doctor (often faster) and with a strong focus on medicine safety and explaining your options clearly.

If your problem needs a GP, specialist or investigation that isn’t suitable for this service, we’ll explain why and help you find the most appropriate NHS or private service for next steps.
