How does it work?

Get a Private Prescription Online – Anywhere in the UK

After your video consultation, if a prescription medicine is clinically appropriate, your prescriber can issue a private electronic prescription.

✓ Your prescription is included in the consultation fee – no hidden extra charge

✓ The prescription is sent electronically, so you can collect your medicine from most pharmacies in the UK

✓ We can also provide a written confirmation of your consultation or treatment (for personal records, work or insurance) for an additional admin fee

We commonly help with:

  • Infections such as sinusitis, tonsillitis, chest infections and skin infections (where antibiotics are appropriate)

  • Shingles

  • Urinary symptoms and other intimate health concerns

  • Skin, gut and hormone-related issues

  • Travel-related health questions and prophylaxis

Your prescriber will never issue antibiotics or other medicines without a proper clinical assessment – we follow UK antimicrobial stewardship guidance and will always explain when a prescription isn’t in your best interests.

Private Doctor vs Prescribing Pharmacist –
What’s the Difference?

You don’t always need to see a private doctor or GP to get safe, evidence-based care.

Our consultations are carried out by independent prescribing pharmacists who are:

  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)

  • Trained to assess, diagnose and treat a wide range of common conditions

  • Able to issue private prescriptions in their own name, just like a doctor or nurse prescriber

For many day-to-day problems, a prescribing pharmacist can give you the same outcome as a private doctor (often faster) and with a strong focus on medicine safety and explaining your options clearly.

If your problem needs a GP, specialist or investigation that isn’t suitable for this service, we’ll explain why and help you find the most appropriate NHS or private service for next steps.

  • Unfortunately not all problems can be solved under this service. We do not routinely perform examinations over video call, as they should ideally be performed in person.

If you need help with a prescription item or suspect you need a prescription (including antibiotics for infections), we may be able to help with this, depending on your symptoms and clinical need.

We are not able to offer prescriptions for controlled drugs - see your GP for these medicines.

We are not able to offer advice for mental health issues - if you are experiencing symptoms of a mental health issue we recommend speaking to your GP, regular healthcare provider or charity. You can call Samaritans on 116 123.

In a health emergency, call 999.

  • During your 30 minute consultation, you’ll be able to discuss health problems or questions freely. We won’t ask for intimate examination or images, but you may be asked to describe any issues you’re having.

Our clinicians will take your history, symptoms and conditions into account when recommending treatments or relief.

If you would like a letter of confirmation of your treatment or consultation (for any purpose, from personal records to proof for insurance), you can choose this at checkout for an administrative fee of £25.

Our team will do their best to help you - if you need more specialist help or advice, we’ll always signpost you to the most appropriate place.

  • We’re a private service and are not a replacement for your NHS GP, but we can often help when:

    • You’re struggling to get a timely GP appointment or private doctor appointment

    • You want a longer, 30-minute discussion about your health

    • You’re looking for a one-off private consultation and prescription

We’ll always advise you to see your GP or call 111/999 when that’s more appropriate.

  • Yes, antibiotics can be prescribed if they are clinically indicated after a full assessment of your symptoms, history and risk factors.

We do not prescribe antibiotics on request alone. Sometimes the safest option is no antibiotic – for example, viral infections or self-limiting illnesses. In those cases, we’ll explain why, how to manage your symptoms and when to seek further help.

  • Yes. If, after assessment, a medicine is appropriate, we can issue a private electronic prescription which can be dispensed at most UK pharmacies.

Your consultation fee includes the prescription cost, so there is no extra charge from us. You’ll only pay the pharmacy for the medicine itself.

  • Yes! We can see anyone in the UK remotely, whether you’re currently in Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales or England.

We often see people from London, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff, Glasgow, Belfast and Edinburgh, especially tourists who have lost their medicines or are unwell and can’t access NHS care.

  • This service, like all of our services, is a private one. Pharmacy Clinic Edinburgh is not an NHS pharmacy and as such are unable to perform any NHS services.

  • The charge for an online consultation is £150. This payment is taken in advance of the consultation.

If any prescriptions are required to be completed, this is included within the price paid upfront. The prescription will be completed as an electronic prescription so that it can be dispensed at any UK pharmacy of your choosing.

Why choose us?

  • No waiting list for appointments: simply click the ‘Book Now’ button and select the first available time (usually same day)

  • We offer UK-wide coverage - this means we can see you online regardless of where you are. Because we issue electronic prescriptions, if you are prescribed something, you’ll be able to get it at your local pharmacy.

  • Prescriptions are included in the cost: no hidden fees here!

  • The person you’ll see is your prescriber: Our pharmacist independent prescribers are able to complete your consultation and issue a prescription, all at once

  • Flexible times: we only require an hour’s notice of your booking, and we’re open Saturday and Sunday!
