Edinburgh: Did you know we can prescribe antivirals for COVID-19?
That’s right! Since June, it is now possible for pharmacies to obtain Paxlovid - an antiviral used in the treatment of acute COVID-19 infections.
Paxlovid is only prescribed as and where it’s deemed clinically necessary - this means only when a clinical prescriber has assessed the patient to make sure the medicine is suitable and necessary for them to use.
-
To be suitable for treatment with Paxlovid, among other criteria, you must:
Be over the age of 18
Have a condition that puts you at higher risk of COVID-19 infection severity
Have had a positive test for COVID-19
Have had your symptoms start within the last 120 hours (5 days)
-
This service does not currrently contain the medicine itself.
You get:
An in-depth consultation with a prescribing pharmacist, either in-person or online
A prescription (where clinically appropriate) for COVID-19 antiviral therapy, which you can take to a pharmacy of your choice (within the UK only)
-
This service costs £250. This covers the cost of our in-depth consultation, clinician’s time and prescribing. (Per our terms and conditions if the appointment is missed you will be charged 50% of the consultation fee (£125))
