Hair Loss Treatment

This service is designed to give comprehensive care: that’s why we include the following:

• A consultation of up to 30 minutes with a prescribing pharmacist, where you can discuss current problems with your hair and scalp, product and self-care recommendations

• Prescribing of medicines suitable to treat your hair loss

• Dispensing and provision of the above medicines

Unfortunately not all hair loss is suitable for treatment under this service.

We can treat Androgenetic Alopecia (also known as male/female pattern baldness), and are looking at expanding the service to include treatments for Cicatricial (Scarring) Alopecia.

You might be prescribed oral tablets or a topical foam. Typically treatment is daily, and the first results may not appear for 3 to 6 months.

This service, like all of our services, is a private one. Pharmacy Clinic Edinburgh is not an NHS pharmacy and as such are unable to perform any NHS services.

The charge for the hair loss treatment service starts at £40 per appointment. This payment is taken in advance of the consultation.

If more products are recommended for purchase or to be prescribed, they will be provided with individual pricing at the time of the appointment.

If any prescriptions are required to be completed, this is included within the price paid upfront.

For male pattern baldness, we are able to prescribe finasteride or dutasteride as an oral tablet/capsule. You may also be recommended to have minoxidil topical foam or liquid at an additional charge.

For female pattern baldness, we are able to prescribe minoxidil topical foam or liquid.

We may also recommend other over-the-counter topical treatments, supplements or other products which may complement your hair- and scalp-care routines. These products are not included in the service price.
