Online Consultation and Prescription


During the Christmas period, our staff are taking a well-earned break! However, we understand that illness doesn’t take a break during Christmas. That’s why we are offering online consultations in the mornings on 23rd, 24th, 25th and 26th December.

This service, if you’ve used it before, runs in exactly the same way.

Simply:

  1. Book your consultation

  2. Follow the Google Meets link in your confirmation email at the time of your appointment

  3. Any prescriptions issued during your consultation will not incur any extra charge

  4. If you are prescribed anything, it will be issued as a SignatureRx prescription. You will be emailed or texted a code which you can take with you to your nearest pharmacy to be dispensed.

Who is the service for?


This service is for:

  • Patients of any age, but the person making the call must be 18 years or older

  • People who have run out of medicines (please note we are unable to provide prescriptions for controlled drugs)

  • People who think they need antibiotics

  • Patients with a suspected or known infection such as a UTI, chest infection or shingles

  • People experiencing a new health concern

This service is not for:

  • Patients under 18 who have no adult representative to take the call

  • Patients requiring controlled medicines (e.g. codeine, Elvanse, Xaggitin, diazepam etc.)

  • People requiring specialist intervention or exams (call 111)

  • Patients who have ongoing chronic health problems

  • People requiring emergency care (call 999)

  • Unfortunately not all problems can be solved under this service. We do not routinely perform examinations over video call, as they should ideally be performed in person.

    If you need help with a prescription item or suspect you need a prescription, we can help with this. This can be discussed during the consultation with a healthcare professional.

    We are not able to offer advice for mental health issues - if you are experiencing symptoms of a mental health issue we recommend speaking to your GP, regular healthcare provider or charity. You can call Samaritans on 116 123.

    In a health emergency, call 999.

  • During your 30 minute consultation, you’ll be able to discuss health problems or questions freely. We won’t ask for intimate examination or images, but you may be asked to describe any issues you’re having.

    Our clinicians will take your history, symptoms and conditions into account when recommending treatments or relief.

    If you would like a letter of confirmation of your treatment or consultation (for any purpose, from personal records to proof for insurance), you can choose this at checkout for an administrative fee of £25.

    Our team will do their best to help you - if you need more specialist help or advice, we’ll always signpost you to the most appropriate place.

  • This service, like all of our services, is a private one. Pharmacy Clinic Edinburgh is not an NHS pharmacy and as such are unable to perform any NHS services.

  • The charge for an out of hours online consultation is £350. This payment is taken in advance of the consultation.

    If any prescriptions are required to be completed, this is included within the price paid upfront. The prescription will be completed as an electronic prescription so that it can be dispensed at any UK pharmacy of your choosing.
