Why Altruist?

Altruist is the only brand we stock for sun protection. Find out why we think it’s the only brand you should be using.

Formulated by experts.

Altruist products are formulated by experts, with help from dermatologists, skin cancer experts and surgeons, to provide the very best sun protection for your skin.

The products are the very best quality, with 5 star UVA Ultra ratings. This means they offer the best protection against UVA Ultraviolet radiation (the most common form of ultraviolet radiation) from the sun. UVA Ultraviolet is capable of penetrating cloud cover, meaning you’re at risk of damage even on an overcast day, and it’s able to power deeper through the skin than UVB, so can cause more damage.

Why worry about skin damage from the sun?

The radiation from the sun can damage the DNA in your cells. When this happens quickly, the skin can burn. This means the melanin (the natural colour in your skin) in your skin was not able to deflect or lessen the radiation.

If you’re exposed to ultraviolet radiation over a long period of time, you may notice your skin starts to tan. This darkening colour is a sign your body is trying to protect itself from the sun.

When the DNA in the cells is damaged, it may cause abnormalities in the way the cells replicate, and can cause skin cancers.

One of Altruist’s key aims is to spread information and education on skin health, including how and why sun damage can occur. When you buy an Altruist product, you help to educate others.

Are they expensive?

Unlike most high-quality skin and sun care, no! Altruist products are affordable, and they last a long time. Individual products typically range from £5-£15, and you can get more value for your money with product bundles and kits.

How often should I use an Altruist product?

All products have intructions on the side, but you can stay protected by wearing an SPF on exposed skin every day, all year round. Reapply if you sweat or go swimming, or every few hours on very hot, sunny days.

Moisturising products should be applied daily or twice daily (more if you have a dry skin condition).

What else do Altruist do?

I’m so glad you asked! As if creating affordable, quality sun and skin care, educating the public and trying to prevent skin cancers wasn’t enough, they also support charitable causes!

Each purchase of an Altruist product supports charities who provide care for children with Albinism in Africa.

Did I also mention that they’re a cruelty-free brand? Well they are - another thumbs up from us!

And that’s it! We stock exclusively Altruist sun protection, because they are affordable, effective and support great causes.
