Edinburgh: Flu vaccine with COVID/RSV/pneumonia - what’s safe to combine?
The short answer to this is, generally, if you’re fit and well and are eligible (see individual vaccine pages) for several Winter vaccines, we are able to do them at the same time.
A lot of consideration goes into this.
Firstly, it’s important to know if the patient is eligible to receive the vaccine we’re providing. You can check this on the vaccine information pages here.
If the vaccines are not live (none of the Winter vaccines we’re currently offering are live vaccines), it’s usually OK to get them at the same time.
If you have had side effects which have impacted you moderately or severely in the past, it might not be recommended to get several vaccines at once.
If you have a fever, or have been unwell in the last 24 to 48 hours, you will not be vaccinated.
Typical combinations we see are: Flu and COVID-19, Flu and Pneumonia, COVID-19 and Shingles.
Due to the risk of side-effects, it’s unlikely you’ll be offered the chance to have more than 2 vaccines at the same time.
